Just two years after 'Oumuamua darted through our solar system, we have found another interstellar interloper! Amateur astronomer Gennadiy Borisov spotted a new comet, now officially designated 2I/Borisov, plunging in from the depths of interstellar space.



Unlike 'Oumuamua, which was a rocky, asteroid-like object, Borisov is a classic comet with a distinct tail and coma. This means the Sun's heat is burning off its surface material, giving observatories around the world a precious opportunity to study the chemical makeup of a comet forged around an entirely different, distant star. The universe is coming to us!
