As 2024 comes to a close, NASA's Parker Solar Probe has achieved its closest, fastest, and most daring approach to the Sun yet.

Utilising its final Venus gravity assist, the probe whipped through the Sun's superheated corona at a mind-bending 430,000 miles per hour, coming within just 3.8 million miles of the solar surface.

The thermal engineering protecting the instruments behind its carbon-composite heat shield is miraculous, handling temperatures exceeding 1,400 degrees Celsius while keeping the science payloads comfortably at room temperature.

It has been another phenomenal year of scientific discovery, and looking up at the stars has never been more exciting.
